Here are a few internship and training opportunities for teens, plus BPL's own Teen Writing Contest!

Brooklyn Public Library: Teen Writing Contest and Ned Vizzini Writing Prize
BPL's Teen Writing Contest is a chance for local teens to showcase their work in a supportive environment and to win the new Ned Vizzini Teen Writing Prize, an award to honor Ned and his literary legacy.
If you're a teen writer from New York City, grades 6-12, you're invited to submit your poetry and prose to be judged by a panel of BPL's expert young adult librarians for creativity, style and voice.
Submit your work here by March 31. 

Brooklyn Navy Yard Summer Internship Program
BNYDC’s Summer Internship Program connects college students and high school seniors to a wide range of paid internship opportunities with businesses within the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Over the course of an 8-week session, students will be connected to Yard-based businesses and departments according to their future career interests, skillsets and educational background. Apply here by March 11.

Museum of Arts and Design: Artslife Internship
Artslife is a paid summer internship program for rising sophomores and juniors enrolled in New York City public and charter high schools that combines art and design with leadership training, museum studies, and community engagement. Participants are introduced to careers in all sectors of the museum: Curatorial, Education, Development, Communications and Marketing, Visitor Services, Security, and Registrar. The application for Artslife 2022 internship program is now open! Applications must be submitted here by April 3, 2022 at 11:59 pm.

New York Historical Society: Student Historians 
Be a history changemaker. Use the resources of New-York Historical to conduct teen-led research on undertold yet highly relevant histories, on topics you care about. Open to high school students, entering grades 9-12. Interns who attend a Title 1 School or are eligible for free or reduced lunch will be offered a stipend to participate. Unpaid internships will be provided for all other accepted students.

Teen Transmitters at the Paley Center for Media
Teen Transmitters at the Paley Center for Media, is a 100 hour paid summer internship for rising 11th and 12th grade students who attend New York City public high schools.  In addition to studying the media landscape, interns will find out what it means to be a media maker. Industry professionals, museum curators, journalists, documentarians, and podcast producers will be invited to speak to the students about their career paths and act as mentors over the course of the program. For the culminating project, interns will produce an original podcast series about their relationship to media.  Get more info and apply here by April 11, 2022 by 5:00 PM.

Explore important contributions by underrepresented women in history, then code and create a website to amplify a woman’s story as you learn HTML and CSS.

Tech Scholars: Web Design II 
August 15 - 19 2022, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm ET
Take your coding and history skills to the next level! Deepen your HTML and CSS skills and learn JavaScript to create an online exhibition! Completion of Tech Scholars: Web Design necessary for this program.
Apply here! The application deadline is May 1 or when we reach 75 applicants. We recommend you apply early! 

St. Nicks Alliance: Free 7wk Construction Training for Young Adults
St. Nicks Alliance is offering a free 7-wk Construction Training course for young adults between the ages of 18-24 years old. Weekly stipends and MetroCards are available for the duration of the program, and employment assistance is offered after successful completion. Find info here, and visit the St. Nicks Alliance website for other training opportunities for ages 18-24.
