Book Review: Super Boba Cafe

This book review was submitted by a local teen. Wolf W. attends middle school in Brooklyn and enjoys visiting the Windsor Terrace Library.

Super Boba Cafe by Nidhi Chanani is an interesting and beautifully written book. It is about a child who shares embarrassing photos of herself with her “Crush,” or “Boyfriend.” He is not satisfied “And wants more,” as said in the text. She feels uncomfortable and doesn’t respond. When she doesn’t respond he leaks the embarrassing photos on social media and other sharing platforms, whatsapp, discord, ect. When she comes to school the next day she is terrified of what people think and is uncomfortable in the place she is learning in. She decides to go to her grandma’s house or as she calls her “Nainai,” to take a break from the “monsters,” as she calls them at school.

This book is a must read for anyone who loves comics and bubble tea. One thing I found interesting about this book is that it tells the story of many kids who find themselves in bad situations caused by cell phone usage and bullying. The pictures in the book all convey a simple yet interesting and tell tale look to them. The pictures were my main understanding of the book, though the way she used her words were beautiful. This all more or less contributed to my hunger for tapioca.

Super Boba Cafe is filled with imagination and friendship along with the twist of sadness for the main character. Once I heard her backstory I was heartbroken, having gone through almost the same thing in the same time of life. The point conveyed in my opinion, is that when us humans drop toxic or bad friendships it can expand your life and make life less stressful. A bad friendship or relationship once dropped can lead to a better, more stable relationship with someone else. That is one of the most important things to have to thrive.
