Harriet Tubman at AME ChurchBrooklyn Daily EagleHarriet Tubman is one of the most famous women in the Civil War. A former slave, she escaped to freedom in the North and then traveled back to the South hundreds of times to help other slaves escape as a "conductor" on the Underground Railroad. She also served as a nurse and as a spy for the Union army during the war.
