  • SummaryCollage, 23 x 25 inches, with military insignia and camouflage. Artwork created in New York Harbor Hospital Creative Arts Program, led by Beryl Brenner. Project: Visions of vets, 2009, referencing the theme: Who is an American veteran? Artwork was displayed at the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial and Vietnam Era Museum and Education Center. Exhibition label: Hidden in the camouflage by Hipolito Collazo. Mr. Collazo’s work explores how a human being's individualism is viewed within a large organization like the Department of Defense. He states “that by its very nature, for the individual, the military creates a form of camouflage in life. You become part of something larger.” Because of the nature of the military’s role within a society this appears somewhat inevitable. As is the case with many of the artists within this exhibition, the notion is that you lose something and in return you gain something.
