Is co-chair of gender studies for Long Island Universtity and works at Kingsborough Community College -- (5:10) Raised Roman Catholic, she fell in love with Judaism in her twenties, converted to Reform Judaism at Temple Emanu'el in NYC --(9:00) Luz became interested in becoming more observant, became affiliated with Shearith Israel, Spanish and Portuguese synagogue in Manhattan where she converted to orthodox Judaism -- (12:15) Moving to Brooklyn with baby daughter, affliated with Kane Street Synagogue. Daughter Zoe's bat mitzvah. Moved to Bay Ridge, still involved with Kane Street Community -- (17:20) Also goes to Lubavitch Center in Bay Ridge -- (18:50) Luz believes "without doubts" -- (19:20) Luz' parents supported her conversion -- (22:50) Luz said to Zoe : "we are Jewish, we are Mexican, we have amazing traditions" -- (25:00) Luz sees Brooklyn as a strong, multifaceted Jewish community.
