  • SummaryDrawing of artist before and after service. Artwork made for project: American, veteran, me, 2012, in response to the prompt: Draw what you looked like prior to military service. Exhibition label: Transition by Henry Gomez, cardboard, paper and drawing, 20 H x 30 W inches, 2012. Iraq War veteran Henry Gomez’s work explores the transition that he experienced from his youth to serving in the military. He felt that he became more assertive and physically stronger. He portrays himself as being a physically muscular man who wears camouflage pants. The challenge upon being discharged from the military is to return to being who he was and to remind everyone that they should never forget what veterans have had to endure.
