  • SummaryDrawing of desert island, a ball and chain, and postive symbols and text. Artwork made for project: Battle after the battle, 2013. Project was a collaboration of creative arts therapist Beryl Brenner with VA NYHHS psychologist Dr. Yasmeen Yamini-Benjamin and Kingsborough Community College recreation therapy intern Shawnese Marriott and focused on coping with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Exhibition label: Controlled chaos, Edward Rodriguez, drawing and collage, 2013. I was raised in a very military styled home by drill instructor mom. Very orderly, organized and regimented so my depiction of my work portrays that aspect of me. The Marine Corps was a perfect fit for me due to this. My artwork may seem like it’s squared away but there are many underlying layers underneath the seemingly uneventful exterior like a volcano. Everything on the outside all seems quiet, but inside turmoil seethes.
