  • SummaryImage represented is one of a related set (BPL 0761, BPL 0759), some of which may also be described in this new record; Three interior views of people, mostly employees, at the Flatlands Branch of Brooklyn Public Library, located at 1972 Flatbush Avenue, on its opening day, October 10, 1949. 0758 shows Mrs. Gerstner, probably branch librarian, and an unidentified young woman. 0759 shows a woman employee sitting at a desk and a young girl and boy, standing beside her; all are unidentified. 0758 and 0759 include large safe in background. Caption (0759): "The new library occupies former premises of a bank and inherited a huge vault set in the rear of the main room." 0761 shows Francis St. John, library director; Ms. Waldstreicher; John Cashmore, borough president; Mrs. Gerstner, and Henry J. Davenport, library trustee. All except Davenport are holding an opening day program. In 1955, the branch moved to 2065 Flatbush Avenue.
