  • SummaryDrawing of recreational activities, surrounded by military elements and slogans. Artwork made for project: American, veteran, me, 2012, in response to the prompt: Draw what you looked like prior to military service. Exhibition label: Perseverance by Max Alvarez, cardboard, paper and drawing, 20 H x 30 W inches, 2012. Iraq War veteran Max Alvarez served in the 3rd ID Battalion 3/7 Infantry and presents their symbol in this powerful piece of artwork. He indicates that this Battalion “saw a great deal of action” and his picture is surrounded by camouflage as a result of these memories. He juxtaposes his drawing of his youthful recreational pleasures with the serious slogan “Some gave all, all gave some.”
