  • SummaryDrawings of figures, ocean, ship in a bottle and collage elements. Artwork made for project: Battle after the battle, 2013. Project was a collaboration of creative arts therapist Beryl Brenner with VA NYHHS psychologist Dr. Yasmeen Yamini-Benjamin and Kingsborough Community College recreation therapy intern Shawnese Marriott and focused on coping with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Exhibition label: Before and after, Mei Jun Li, drawing and collage, 2013. The mask is the face of death. Li shows himself before and after the Iraq war, the upside down clock shows everything is crazy: graves with crosses. The symbolic tornado that war represents. In a bottle are the dreams that I had as a kid and they are all gone. The balloons sailing represent calmness. The hand holds taps. The sea represents a gap before and after. My coping skills are watching movies, going to Sunset Park and sleeping.
