  • SummaryCollage, 23 x 25 inches, includes text: I was a woman in the air force. Artwork created in New York Harbor Hospital Creative Arts Program, led by Beryl Brenner. Project: Visions of vets, 2009, referencing the theme: Who is an American veteran? Artwork was displayed at the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial and Vietnam Era Museum and Education Center. Exhibition label: Women served too by Paulette Mc Arthur. Ms. Mc Arthur's work focuses on what it feels like to be female in the military, which is a male dominated organization. She reminds us that “women served too.” In Ms. Mc Arthur’s work, like so much of feminine artwork, she reveals her emotional self. She explores the dichotomy of mixed emotions such as missing home and subsequently missing the air force after she did return home. Her cloud like formations harkens to the fact that the air force is distinguishable from the other branches of the service because it is synonymous with flight.
