  • SummaryCollage, 23 x 25 inches, with inspirational texts. Artwork created in New York Harbor Hospital Creative Arts Program, led by Beryl Brenner. Project: Visions of vets, 2009, referencing the theme: Who is an American veteran? Artwork was displayed at the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial and Vietnam Era Museum and Education Center. Exhibition label: A day in the life by Michael McDonald. Mr. McDonald’s work tries to explore the world from the eyes of a Vietnam Veteran. The eagle represents America and connects the soldier with American values. Rather than displaying menacing and aggressive images, Mr. McDonald shares images of sweetness and love. He indicates that the average Vietnam veteran had a strong connection to their “Mama and Daddy”. After all, the average age of the Vietnam veteran was 19. His work speaks about love and pleasure which connects him conceptually to those non-veterans within his generation. Of course, this other group did not understand their mutual similarities and always focused upon their differences.
