Artwork made for project: American, veteran, me, 2012, in response to the prompt: Draw what you looked like prior to military service. Exhibition label: Metamorphosis by Ramon Gutierrez, cardboard, paper and drawing, 20 H x 30 W inches, 2012. Ramon portrays himself as a pudgy guy before he entered the military. After he joins, he alters his body and improves his physique. This makes him feel like a king and he utilizes images of crowns to reinforce this concept. He also presents dog tags which allude to the military experience.
