  • SummaryPhotographer and author Larry Racioppo talks about his work and his 2018 book, Brooklyn Before: Photographs 1971-1983. Larry Racioppo was born and raised in South Brooklyn, and has been photographing throughout New York City since 1971. From 1989 until 2011, Racioppo was the official photographer for the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, hired to document the city's rebuilding of distressed neighborhoods. The exhibition Larry Racioppo: a retrospective was on display at the Brooklyn Collection from September 17 - December 29, 2018 highlighting photographs from the collection, from many of his Brooklyn-based photo projects as well as equipment, books, and archival material.
