  • SummaryCollage, 25 x 23 inches, with photographs of artist and patriotic symbols. Artwork created in New York Harbor Hospital Creative Arts Program, led by Beryl Brenner. Project: Visions of vets, 2009, referencing the theme: Who is an American veteran? Artwork was displayed at the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial and Vietnam Era Museum and Education Center. Exhibition label: Glad to be home in the US by Dindal Soogrim. In this work Mr. Soogrim reflects upon the completion of his tour in Vietnam on Dec. 5, 1969 through Ft. Lewis, Washington. He has no place to live in New York when he returned. He briefly stayed with a friend in Manhattan and then he met his wife in March of 1970. He started a family and had 3 children. He sports an elaborately decorated jacket and turns his back on Vietnam. The family is his future and soldiering is his past. Yet, even now, he wears a Vietnam Veteran cap with the understanding that his military experience will always be a part of his life’s experience regardless of how much time passes by.
