'Tis the Season to Be Reading: A Holiday Booklist

Jessi

Are you ready for the holiday season? Here are some books set during Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, and New Years.

1. Christmas Clash by Suzanne Park: Enemies Chloe Kwon and Peter Li, whose families operate rival restaurants in the food court, must work together to save the mall from a developer and discover that the feud between their families goes far deeper than either of them realized.

2. Eight Dates and Nights by Betsy Aldredge: Teens Hannah and Noah, who each have different ideas of how to spend Hanukkah, team up to save the last Jewish remnant in small-town Texas.

3. Eight Nights of Flirting by Hannah Reynolds: Determined to have a boyfriend this Hanukkah, Shira Barbanel, an absolute disaster at flirting, makes a deal with her nemesis-slash-former-crush: flirting lessons in exchange for career connections, but when things don’t go as planned, she must learn to trust her heart.

4. Finding My Elf by David Valdes Greenwood: While home for winter break, Cameron takes a job as a Christmas elf and finally finds his “people” and possibly “the one” in the fakest consumerist nightmare place on Earth where he least expected it.

5. How to Excavate a Heart by Jake Maia Arlow: Fresh off a breakup, college freshman Shani is distracted from her monthlong paleoichthyology internship when she gets involved with May, but when their relationship takes a serious turn, Shani’s heartache over her ex-girlfriend’s rejection comes rushing back.

6. Let it Snow : three holiday romances edited by John Green, Maureen Johnson, Lauren Myracle: An ill-timed storm on Christmas Eve buries the residents of Gracetown under multiple feet of snow and causes quite a bit of chaos. One brave soul ventures out into the storm from her stranded train, setting off a chain of events that will change quite a few lives. Over the next three days one girl takes a risky shortcut with an adorable stranger, three friends set out to win a race to the Waffle House (and the hash brown spoils), and the fate of a teacup pig falls into the hands of a lovesick barista.

7.  My True Love Gave to Me : twelve holiday stories edited by Stephanie Perkins: Collects twelve holiday-themed romances featuring relationships that blossom during Christmas, Hanukkah, the winter solstice, and Kwanzaa by such young adult authors as Jenny Han, Holly Black, and Myra McEntire.

8. One Way or Another by Kara McDowell: Seventeen-year-old Paige suffers from a paralyzing fear of making the wrong decision, so when presented with the choice between two life-long dreams Paige is forced to face the truth about her struggle with anxiety.

9. Talk Santa to Me by Linda Urban: Fifteen-year-old Frankincense (Frankie) Wood tries to pull off the Christmas of her dreams as she juggles trying to keep in touch with her best friend, family dynamics at the family's Holiday shop, and recovering from world's worst first kiss.

10. Whiteout edited by Dhonielle Clayton: As the city grinds to a halt, twelve teens band together to help a friend pull off the most epic apology of her life. But will they be able to make it happen, in spite of the storm? (from Goodreads).

Wishing everyone a joyous and peaceful holiday season!
