Romance, Cookbooks, and More!

December is chock full of holidays like Hanukkah, Christmas, Solstice, and Kwanzaa. Although 2020 has been A LOT and the holidays are looking a lot different than we’re used to, these cozy romances and fun nonfiction titles are ideal for making you smile as you sip a nice nog or chocolatey cocoa.

Dolly Dingle Lesbian Landlady by Monica NolanDolly Dingle, Lesbian Landlady by Monica Nolan is a light and saucy homage to classic mid-century pulp novels. Dorian (aka Dolly) lives at the Magdalena Arms, a building full of swell Sapphic gals of all ages. When her landlady’s hip hits the floor with a bang, it’s up to Dolly and company to save the day, save the Magdalena, and revive that holiday spirit.

Adriana Herrera’s Mangos & Mistletoe whips together a dash of romance, a sprinkling of Latin culture, and a Great British Bake Off-style baking contest into a delectable story that will warm your heart. Cinnamon and sparks fly between pastry chef Kiskeya Burgos and Sully Morales, a home cooking hustler, as they try to bake their way to the top.

Although Hanukkah was in mid-December, it’s not too late to enjoy a bittersweet and spicy romance between Maccabe Fried and Josh Segal in Eight Days. Each chapter is a peek into their lives each Hanukkah as they grow up, catch feelings, fall out, and figure it out together. This petite novella fits a lot into a few pages!

If you’d rather indulge your sweet tooth than read a sweet romance, both Tasty Pride: 75 Recipes and Stories from the Queer Food Community and My Drunk Kitchen Holidays: How to Savor and Celebrate the Year have recipes and stories galore. Whether you’re in the mood for berry blintzes or a new take on crinkle cookies, these cookbooks have you covered.
