Bushwick Library Infrastructure Project
Beginning in June 2026, Bushwick Library will undergo a major infrastructure renovation project expected to take approximately two years. This significant investment includes replacement of the building’s heating and cooling systems, a new roof, and additional infrastructure improvements designed to support the long-term sustainability and functionality of the branch.
During the closure, Bushwick Library staff will work to provide programs, services, and Bookmobile visits throughout the neighborhood.

Bushwick Library opened in the rented first floor of a church at Montrose Avenue and Humboldt Street in 1903 before moving to its present location on Bushwick Avenue in 1908. Today this historic Carnegie library is a popular destination for children and families, with Story Time and Kids Tech Time among its best-attended offerings. The Spectrum Learning Lab, the branch's new educational programming and technology center, provides patrons with free, state-of-the-art technology as well as digital literacy workshops, STEM programs and open labs for independent work.
