babies & books Events for Youth and Family Heritage Ambassadors multilingual multilingual storytime music

"Adventures in the Andes" invites children on an immersive journey through the
Andes mountains, exploring Spanish language and Afro-Peruvian rhythms
through music, storytelling, and interactive activities. Led by singer Araceli Poma,
children will engage in sing-alongs, puppet interactions, and cultural explorations,
fostering language development and cultural appreciation in a vibrant, bilingual
environment.

This unique experience of music and puppets with diverse identities aims to instill
in children a love for their cultures from a young age, promoting inclusivity and
pride in their heritage.

ARACELI POMA is a two-time Latin Grammy nominee, an Ambassador of Afro and Andean Music of Peru, and a disseminator of Quechua through her songs and musical documentaries. Her work is defined by her interest in making visible the fundamental contribution of women in music and her commitment to the union and integration of cultures.

Brooklyn Public Library’s Folk Arts program is supported by funds from the New York State Council on the Arts.
