Every May, we celebrate the accomplishments of Brooklyn Connections students with a Recognition Ceremony and Celebration in the Dweck Auditorium located in the Central Library, and this year was no different.
We also hold on to some outstanding work and put it on display inside the Brooklyn Collection during the summer. Although our beloved Program Coordinator, Leslie Shope has moved on, the exhibition is in place, ready for your viewing pleasure.
This year's projects comprised the most eclectic topics and intricate displays to date. The projects ranged from exhibit boards, models, plays, research papers, slideshows, movies, and scrapbooks from a huge array of research topics ranging from artists to World War II and abolitionists to Jay-Z.
Projects exhibited in the Brooklyn Collection include a model of the World War II battleship USS Missouri, a play written by 7th graders about the evolution of the Verrazano-Narrows bridge 1524-1969, a model of a Crown Heights brownstone, and a tri-fold board showcasing the ever-popular Brooklyn Bridge.

The exceptional projects showcased in the exhibit represent a small fraction of the projects completed by over 1,200 students who were enrolled in the program. This year we had the pleasure of working with 20 middle and high schools across Brooklyn: Academy of Environmental Leadership, Beginning with Children Charter School, Hellenic, IS 30, IS 165, IS 364, IS 392, JHS 240, MS 57, MS 126, MS 136, MS 340, PS 138, PS 189, PS 89, PS/ IS 109, PS/ IS 163, S.T.A.R. Early College and Teacher's Prep.
Next year, Brooklyn Connections will be expanding yet again, to at least 25 schools. Check out out the Brooklyn Connections web site with examples of student projects, with more completed projects still to come.
