Teens Create!

Eric

It's been a hard year, but Brooklynites know that when times get tough the tough get going! Young Adults in Brooklyn remain undaunted by the many challenges that 2020 brought. Instead they found an opportunity to create, explore, and grow. Whether it's a community service, an artistic endeavor, a fun program, or even the next great American novel, young people in our community know how to step it up! Here are a few of the many great things created by community teens this year:

Young adults in our Best Buy Teen Tech Center at the King's Highway branch have certainly kept busy. One BBTTC member arranged a citizenship info session for teens, and taught them the process of getting citizenship and provided information on questions that might be on the citizenship test. Others used the technology in the BBTTC in order to make animations and book trailers. They even held a competition to design their own logo, you can see the winning entry to the left!

In addition to the visual arts, students have been productive writing prose and poetry. The sheer number of submissions to our Teen Writing Contest & Ned Vizzini Teen Writing Prize is a testemant to this. Hundreds of teen writers from New York City, grades 6-12, submited their poetry and prose to a panel of BPL's expert young adult librarians for creativity, style and voice. The winners recieved a cash award, and had their pieces published in our Teen Writing Journal, distributed by the library.

Are you a young person, or do you know a young person involved in an exceptional project? Involved with services, arts, crafts, programming, writing, or sports? Would you like to see that activity promoted by the blog? Post a comment below if you'd like to see it presented up here!
