Summer Museum Internship - GOALS for Girls with the Intrepid

Lisa

This internship application is due April 6th and has a few steps, so hurry if you want to apply!

Are you someone who identifies as a girl in 8th or 9th grade in NYC? Do you like science, technology, or computers, and want to meet other girls who like exploring how to solve problems? Looking for a cool experience this summer that will help build your resume?

Check out GOALS for Girls at the Intrepid Museum. They are looking for girls in all five boroughs to participate in a summer intensive, and if you enjoy your experience, to become interns for one of the wildest museums in NYC (ever wanted to work next to the space shuttle?)

How to participate:

  • Step One:  Visit the GOALS webpage. This is where you can find all information and downloadable documents and the application: https://www.intrepidmuseum.org/education/goals-for-girls
  • Step Two: Download the paper application. Read through the full application to understand what's required and where you need additional documentation, like Parts D and E
  • Step Three: Part D: Student Showcase. Decide whether you want to submit an essay OR a video. Choose ONE prompt. Write your essay or create and save your 1-minute video on the same computer/device you plan to complete your online application (trust me, this will make it much easier to submit everything if it's one ONE device)
  • Step Four: Part E: Transcripts and report cards. There's TWO uploads you need to provide for this section. Make sure to save these documents on the same device you have your essay or video.
    • If you are a current 8th grader: You must upload your complete 7th grade report card (one separate document to upload) AND your most recent 8th grade report card (one separate document to upload)
    • If you are a current 9th grader: You must upload your complete 8th grade report card (one separate document to upload) AND your most recent 9th grade report card (one separate document to upload)
  • Step Five: Part F: Adult recommendation. This is NOT required, but if you'd like to include a recommendation, please have your recommender send their letter to Shay Saleem at youthleadership@intrepidmuseum.org with the full name of the applicant. Don't worry about including the document in the online application. Again, this is optional.
  • Step Six: Complete and Submit the Online application. Okay, now's the time to give yourself at least an hour to complete the online application. It MUST be done in ONE sitting. You cannot save your information and go back to it at a later time. If you close the browser or have it sit idle, you will lose any information you included.
    • Make sure you have your adult information ready to include, name, email address, phone number
    • Make sure your responses in Part B are awesome and showcase your curiosity and interests
    • Make sure you have your essay OR video ready to upload
    • Make sure you have your TWO reports cards/transcripts ready to upload

Feel free to also reach out directly to Shay Saleem, Sr Manager of Teen Leadership Programs if any students/families have challenges with the application at youthleadership@intrepidmuseum.org

Good luck, and stay tuned for a round-up of even more internship opportunities next week!
