Whether it’s called a job fair, a career fair, or a resource fair, these events can help job seekers with finding training opportunities and work. Want to get ready to put your best foot forward at events like these? Keep reading!
The Brooklyn Public Library is no stranger to hosting job fairs. In fact, several library branches throughout Brooklyn will play host to a job fair at least once a year. But BPL employees also travel to job fairs too. Maybe you’ve seen us at a Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce job fair or even at a neighborhood block party. At these events, we share information about job seeker services, get folks signed up for library cards, and sometimes even give out cool swag.
In preparation for our job fair @ Central on March 18th, here are some helpful tips and resources to help you prepare!

Our Advice in a Nutshell
Have plenty of copies of your resume. Need to print a few out? It’s just 10 cents a page at the library. Pop your copies into a folder or envelope to keep them looking nice and crisp.
Be polite to everyone! Make sure your first impression is a good impression.
Treat each conversation like a mini job interview. Think about your elevator pitch – what could an employer learn about you as a professional in 60 seconds?
Make sure to follow up with jobs you’re interested in – that might mean keeping an eye out for a phone call, filling out an application online, emailing someone your resume, or similar kinds of tasks.
Wear clothing that makes you feel polished and ready to meet people. It might be slacks and a dress shirt, or a dress with a nice cardigan, or even a suit and tie. A nice pair of chinos and a polo shirt also work.
And remember: You don’t have to be perfect, just do your best. If this job fair isn’t a success, the next one can be!
