Borrow board games from Brooklyn Public Library!

Brooklyn Public Library patrons with an adult library card can now borrow up to three board games at a time for a period of three weeks. This free service is currently available at the Adams Street, Bushwick, Central, Crown Heights, Greenpoint, Jamaica Bay, McKinley Park, New Utrecht and Windsor Terrace Libraries by following these steps:

  1. Place your board game(s) on hold by using the links in the game list below, or by navigating to our catalog and searching there. Adams Street, Bushwick, Central, Crown Heights, Greenpoint, Jamaica Bay, McKinley Park, New Utrecht and Windsor Terrace Libraries are currently the only branches where you can pick up games. 
  2. When your game is ready for pickup, we will notify you and you can come and pick it up. We are currently only open for pick up at Adams Street, Bushwick, Central, Crown Heights, Greenpoint, Jamaica Bay, McKinley Park, New Utrecht and Windsor Terrace
  3. When you are done with your game, or when your three weeks are up, please return it to the reference desk at either Adams Street, Bushwick, Crown Heights, Greenpoint, Jamaica Bay, McKinley Park, New Utrecht, Windsor Terrace and Central Library's Youth Wing. Games may not be left in book drops.

Please be advised we are currently accepting donations at Bushwick, Central and Crown Heights libraries only.

 

Frequently Asked Questions

Anyone with a valid full-access adult Brooklyn Public Library card.

You can borrow up to three games at a time and can place a hold on an additional three games.

You may keep the games for three weeks.

Yes, board games can be renewed, provided they are not on hold for another patron.

Let us know when you return the game if there are pieces missing so that we can make sure the game is complete for the next patron. If missing pieces will prevent a game from being playable or if a game is not returned at all, your account may be fined to cover replacement costs.

Games can only be returned to the Adams Street, Bushwick, Crown Heights,  Greenpoint, Jamaica Bay, McKinley Park, New Utrecht, Windsor Terrace and Central Library Youth Wing locations of Brooklyn Public Library during branch hours. Games must be returned to the librarian at the reference desk and may not be left in book drops.

After seven days, games will be marked as missing and a replacement fee will be assessed. Replacement fees depend on the cost of the game to be replaced. Returning the game will waive the replacement fee.

No. Currently you may only check out one copy of any particular title per library card.

All games come with instructions in English.

Instructions in other languages are available online for many of our games, and directions for accessing alternate language versions will be provided where available.

Let the librarian know if you discover missing pieces as soon as possible. Sometimes games are loaned out without all factory original pieces if the game is playable as is.

Our collection contains games for a variety of ages and skill levels, from young children and beginners to older and experienced players.
