Airway is an open-mic storytelling event for doctors to share their experiences from the field. Started by Drs Erogul and Schiller at Maimonides Medical Center in 2015, Airway soon spread citywide and has since become a staple at academic assemblies and hospitals around the country. The foundation of Airway is for participants and the audience to connect through honest human stories.

Mert Erogul, MD, is a physician with over twenty-five years of patient care experience. Dr. Erogul graduated from the University of Michigan School of Medicine in 1997 and completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Brown University/Rhode Island Hospital. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine and Obesity Medicine and is the Medical Bariatrician in the Maimonides Medical Center Division of Bariatric Surgery. He has taught medical students and residents at Maimonides Medical Center and SUNY Downstate School of Medicine in Brooklyn for 15 years where he is an assistant professor. Dr. Erogul serves on the editorial board of the journal Obesity Pillars and is deeply knowledgeable about metabolic health, obesity science, and geroscience, and is excited about the profound possibilities in these fields. He has published in The New York Times, The Guardian, among others.

Nakesha King, MD, MS (Specialties: Attending Physician, Trauma Surgery) graduated from Weill Cornell Medical College and completed her general surgery training at The Ohio State University. She completed her Masters of Science during her research sabbatical concentrating on tissue engineered vascular grafts at the Center of Regenerative Medicine of Nationwide Children's Hospital. She returns to New York as a General and Trauma Surgeon as well as an Intensivist in the Department of Surgery at the Maimonides Medical Center. In addition to her clinical duties, she enjoys participating in residency education and community outreach.

Dr. Jessica Poster is currently the Director of Psychiatric Emergency Services, Department of Psychiatry at Maimonides Medical Center. She earned her medical degree from Albany Medical College and completed an internship, residency, and fellowship at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. She is board-certified in Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry.

He holds a Master of International Affairs with a Certificate of Expertise in Middle East studies from Columbia University and trained in Emergency Medicine at Stony Brook University Hospital. He also works in part with a charitable organization he helped found called International Medical Response, which sends teams of doctors to countries like Rwanda and Haiti. He is a big believer in the power of stories and encourages residents (as well as anyone else who listens) to read as many books as possible outside the profession to gain perspective and context to the work that we do.

Poroshat Shekarloo, MD (Specialty: Hospitalist, Ob/GYN) is the founder of MAAHSA and an Obstetrician Gynecologist and the Director of Global Health and Peer Review at Maimonides Medical Center (MMC) in Brooklyn. She has over ten years of experience working in women’s and adolescent health. Dr. Shekarloo began her career as a community activist and organizer on issues such as domestic and sexual violence, substance abuse and their impact specifically on women of color and their communities. She developed the Global Health Program at MMC in 2018 and has organized surgical trips with her residents to Kenya and Guatemala in partnership with Saving Mothers. She has a passion for equitable access to maternal and adolescent health globally.
