BPL Presents brooklyn book festival humanities and art poetry


In this high-wattage panel discussion celebrating the new Library of America anthology Latino Poetry, anthology editor Rigoberto González and contributor Yesenia Montilla will discuss the political and poetic geographies of Latino identity and culture in and beyond New York and how these relate to their own work and trajectory. They will address the relationship between craft and the social voice as well as questions of race, gender, sexuality, migration, and the many forms of Latino poetry inside and outside the academy. González will also discuss his editorial vision and process in putting together the anthology. Moderated by anthology advisor and contributor Urayoán Noel. Featuring Juanita Castro-Ochoa and Marlon Xavier.

Juanita Castro-Ochoa is a Colombian actress based in NYC who received her MFA from The Actor Studio Drama School. She is best known for her role as Daniela in The Equalizer

Marlon Xavier is a New York City-based actor and a proud member of Labyrinth Theatre Company and a Finalist at The Actors Studio. He holds an MFA degree from the Actor Studio Drama School.

 

Co-presented with The Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Education Center as part of Historias, a multi-year initiative celebrating the transformative impact of Latinx communities in New York City.
