Ellen Hopkins: On Writing Banned Books

Join us for an evening with Ellen Hopkins to discuss her novels, book challenges, and the writing process. Ellen Hopkins is a poet, a former journalist, and the award-winning author of twenty nonfiction books for young readers, fourteen bestselling young-adult novels, two middle grade novels and four novels for adult readers. SYNC, out in August, is her fifteenth YA novel-in-verse.

Ellen will be in conversation with Adeeba Afshan Rana, a poet and librarian who reads and writes in Brooklyn, NY. Adeeba earned her MFA in poetry from Stonecoast at the University of Southern Maine and her Master's in Library Science at Pratt Institute. She can often be found behind the reference desk at the Bedford branch of the Brooklyn Public Library. 

Teens will also hear about our upcoming Freedom to Read Advocacy Institute and how to join BPL's new Freedom to Read Teen Ambassadors program.

This event is recommended for teens and adults. Registration is not required, but is recommended.
