Get started in 2024 on the right track with a healthier you!

Learn what health insurance can do for you if you are self-employed or if your employer does not offer a health insurance plan.

This presentation will offer guidance on health insurance options providing a brief overview on health insurance – why you need it, how to make wise financial choices in getting it, and using it to the fullest.

Since 2000, the New York City (NYC) Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Office of Health Insurance Services has helped connect uninsured New Yorkers to health insurance options and enrolled them into coverage. Their NYC Health Department Certified Application Counselors (CACs) provide enrollment services throughout the city in multiple languages. CACs help individuals and families explore their health insurance options on the New York State of Health Marketplace and select a health plan and primary care provider. They connect New Yorkers who do not qualify for insurance to appropriate and affordable health care services (such as NYC Care, NYC Health + Hospitals and community health centers), screen families for eligibility to receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, and make referrals to other social service organizations as needed. In addition, the Office of Health Insurance Services assists New Yorkers who are age 65 or older, certified blind and certified disabled with Medicaid enrollments and applications for Medicare and the Medicare Savings Program which helps cover Medicare costs.
