Know Your Rights: Eviction Defense
Justice Initiatives at BPL is partnering with community organizations and agencies to produce a series of Know Your Rights workshops. This event in the series will focus on Eviction Defense and Tenant Power in New York City in 2023. We'll discuss what New Yorkers can do to organize tenant associations in their buildings, the history of working-class eviction defense, and what new strategies have emerged during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The event will be livestreamed here and on the BPL YouTube channel. There will be a slideshow presentation followed by a discussion, with the Q&A session at the end of the workshop. You will be able to post your questions in the livestream chat.

Alex moved to New York from Savannah, Georgia in 2020. Alex comes from a place where tenant rights do not exist and organizes with the knowledge of what life is like without them. Through a historical lens, Alex understands that the only way the working class has gotten and kept these rights is by tenants organizing themselves to demand them.
