Older Americans Celebration Fair: Aging Unbound
Come out for Services for Older Adults' seventh annual Older Adults Celebration Fair from 10 am – 3 pm on Central Library's Plaza (inside the Grand Lobby in case of rain). No registration required!
This year’s theme is “Aging Unbound," which offers an opportunity to explore diverse aging experiences and discuss how communities can combat stereotypes. Join us in promoting flexible thinking about aging—and how we all benefit when older adults remain engaged, independent, and included. We're also celebrating 10 Years of Creative Aging! With the help from our funders and great teaching artists, we’ve been providing programs that teach our Older Adults new skills in areas such as Oral History, Painting, Memoir Writing, Dance, Poetry, Storytelling, and other disciplines throughout Brooklyn. Our participants not only gain skills but also cultivate new and lasting friendships.
Schedule
10 am Welcome and Honoring of Older Adult of the Year, Esther Poretsky
11 am Creative Aging Teaching Artists’ Demonstrations
- Dave Johnson – Poetry & Collage Demo
- Life Story Club – Storytelling Demo
- Flow and Restore – Self-massage
12 pm Music Performance: LA Blacksmith
1 pm Creative Aging Latin Dance Demo and Performance
2 pm Music Performance TBD
Please join us Friday for the free festivities, demonstrations, music, dance, artists, vendors, snacks, giveaways and more! Deputy Brooklyn Borough President Kim Council will give opening remarks and we will recognize the Library's older adult of the year. Older adults can participate in art and self-massage workshops; learn how to share their experiences through oral histories and storytelling; discover BPL programs just for them; and dance the afternoon away. Please share this information with your older adult friends and family and we'll see you out in the sunshine Friday!
Everyone is welcome! Masks encouraged.
