Repair Hub Workshop: Bike Maintenance and Repair
In this 2-hour hands-on workshop led by Meryl LaBorde, attendees will learn how bicycles work and how to keep them in good shape. We’ll cover:
- The bike and all its moving parts
- Basic preventative maintenance to reduce trips to the bike shop and make the parts last longer
- How to fix a flat tire
- Where to learn more about specific bike repair questions
Attendees do not have to bring bikes to this workshop! Practice bikes will be provided.
This workshop will be held Saturday, May 21st from 10:00-12:00 pm EST at the Greenpoint branch. Space is limited to 12 participants, allowing for close instruction and feedback.
For this reason, please only register if you plan to attend! We've worked hard to prepare a great workshop for you, and are arranging bikes and tools based on the number of registered attendees. If your plans change and you can’t make it, please email athompson@bklynlibrary.org at least 48 hours before the event so we can add someone off the waitlist.
Meryl LaBorde has been using a bike as their main mode of transportation for their entire adult life. Working as a bike messenger got them interested in learning about fixing bikes and they’ve been working as a bike mechanic for the past 7 years. They’ve also been teaching others to fix bikes through various community projects for the past several years. Besides working on bikes and taking things apart, Meryl enjoys meeting all the neighborhood dogs and cats, wandering aimlessly, and organizing for a more pedestrian and cyclist friendly city.
