Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho created a new genre in film making, the Slasher Film. Shot in black and white and released in 1960, audiences had never seen anything like Psycho before. Hitchcock pulled out all his knowledge and skill from years of making films to produce Psycho. It was perhaps his peak as a film maker. He loved a good twist ending and the public was told not to reveal this one. Adapted from the novel of the same name by horror writer, Robert Bloch, the film was a sensation. Made for about 800 thousand dollars, it grossed over 50 million.
