The World is A Womb is the closing ceremony for Mary Enoch Elizabeth Baxter’s first solo exhibition "Ain't I A Woman", showcased at the Brooklyn Museum to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade. The exhibit expands the hyper-focus of abortion within the reproductive justice movement into a more comprehensive and inclusive conversation. Baxter explores issues affecting Black families that are hidden from the public eye such as the systemic abuse of Black youth, pipelines to incarceration, and oppressive systems that deny the right to safe and healthy family planning for disenfranchised people.

  • Special Guest: Mary Enoch Elizabeth Baxter
  • Panelists: Jeannine Kayembe, Karen Washington, Charyln Griffith & Judith Clark

The closing ceremony celebrates the final days of the "Ain't I A Woman" exhibition and centers community healing, Black femme creativity and abolition. Join us for a conversation between artists and activists on the intersection between environmental and reproductive justice, followed by art-making, which embodies emotions in the aftermath of these conversations. Participants will have the opportunity to march to Brooklyn Museum with their art. The celebration will start off at Brooklyn Public Library's Central Library Branch and move to the Brooklyn Museum. Please see the schedule for the closing ceremony below:
