Clubhouse Mentor

Purpose of Assignment:

Be available to The Clubhouse (Best Buy Teen Tech Center at Kings Highway Library) and staff to provide assistance, support, and encouragement to Clubhouse Members.

Responsibilities:
  • Offer guidance to Members in developing creative skills through the use of technology
  • Encourage Member participation in workshops introducing STEAM related activities
  • Organize and launch special projects (based on interest)
  • Assist in providing Members with support and resources about career/college opportunities
  • Promote the use of library resources by referring teens to an on-staff specialist, when appropriate 
Required Skills: 
  • A strong commitment to working with teens
  • A friendly approachable manner
  • Technical and/or art skills or commitment to developing skills 
  • The ability to get along with a diverse group of teens
Program Notes:
  • Mentoring standards aligned to the MENTOR: National Mentoring Partnership’s Elements of Effective Practice for Mentoring as well as Brooklyn Public Library customer service standards
  • Mandatory ongoing training provided
  • Ability to make a minimum commitment of two or three hours per week for a period of at least six months

BPL will conduct an investigative background check on volunteers 18 and older, which may be used when considering a prospective volunteer’s application
