Caption: "Located at Jay Street and Cathedral Place, it was the first Roman Catholic church in the Diocese of Brooklyn. In 1822 approximately 70 Catholics banded together to build St. James church and a cemetery. The cornerstone was laid the same year and dedicated in 1823. ... St. James [is] ... now known as St. James Pro-Cathedral."
