The six 'hash marks' on uniform sleeve mean 18 years spent by Karr in the service. The medals you see are: Silver Star, Soldier's Medal, Purple Heart, Presidential Personal Citation, American Theater, Pacific Campaign, Allied Invasion Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal."
