  • SummaryCaption: "Installation of pontoons 34 feet in length heave been completed on the seaplane to be used by the Byrd Antarctic Expedition. The work was done at Glen[n] Curtiss Airport, North Beach, under the supervision of Harold I. June, chief pilot for Admiral Byrd. The Curtiss-Wright Condor is the largest seaplane in the world. ... The Condor will operate on skiis during the operations at the South Pole. It will be flown from North Beach to Norfolk, Va. ... where it will be place aboard the supply ship Jacob Ruppert." Note: The Glenn H. Curtiss Airport was later renamed North Beach Airport, and later renamed, again, LaGuardia Airport.
