  • SummaryCaption: "Seventy-six years ago, New York's oldest Republican club was formed in Brooklyn by a group of Union army survivors of the Civil War. Now known as the Federal Republican Club of the 8th Assembly District, with headquarters at 217 Ninth Street, Brooklyn, the organization this week celebrated the anniversary of its founding in 1872. Two of its oldest members, Charles Miller, 73 (left) and Charles A . Walter, 79 (right), garbed in military costume, look over minutes of one of the club's earliest meetings, with the club's leader, Harold Turk. The club, in its four generations of activity has only had two leaders. The first was the late Judge Jacob Brenner, whose photograph appears above the participants, and Mr. Turk who has held the post 26 years."
