Her grandmother "Bobie" (Clara Markowitz Weinberg) and grandfather "Yaya" (Harry Weinberg) were from an orthodox Jewish family. Harry came from Poland in 1920s. Harry had been a fisherman in Poland. Harry joined his father and brother in Pittsburgh where he started a scrap metal yard and made pickles on a side as a hobby -- (01:15) "Bobie" Clara (nee Markowitz) Weinberg was born in the United States. Her parent were from Romania, arrived early 1920s, settled in Indianapolis. Father of Clara was a carpenter who helped build race track. The family moved to West Virginia then Pittsburgh where "Bobie" and "Yaya" met -- (02:40) Sarah moved to New York in 2009, then Brooklyn in 2010 because it was the "coolest place to be" -- (04:00) Growing up in Philadelphia, Sarah went to a secular, humanist Jewish organization called "folkshul" - a social action project -- (05:50) Her grandfather died young and grandmother leaved far way. Family of Sarah went to friends for seder every year. Before the birth of her son Everett, Jewish tradition didn't feel so important but today Sarah wants to transmit her Jewish heritage -- (08:54) Jewish Brooklyn is very engrained in Brooklyn history.
