- Biographical NoteJudge Rachel "Ruchie" Freier, born April 2, 1965, is married to David Freier who is part of the Bobover Hasidic community. They have six children and live in Borough Park. Judge Freier was elected to Civil Court for Kings County 5th judicial district in 2016. She is the first Hasidic Jewish woman to hold public office in United States history. Although she ran for Civil Court, after being elected she was assigned to the Criminal Court. In 2011, she founded Ezras Nashim, licensed by the New York State Department of Health in February 2013. It is an all-female Orthodox Jewish volunteer EMT ambulance service established to preserve women's modesty in emergency medical situations, especially childbirth.
