Repair Hub

The Repair Hub at the Greenpoint Environmental Education Center (GEEC) is a year-long program transforming the branch into a space to learn and share repair skills, and build more sustainable relationships with our belongings.

From April-November 2022, the branch will host workshops focused on repair topics of demonstrated interest to the community—including clothing, bikes, furniture, lamps and small appliances, and home repairs—in an inclusive and accessible environment. These workshops are designed to empower patrons to tinker, play, and ultimately become confident stewards of the things in their lives.

This program is inspired by the knowledge that repair and maintenance have a substantial role to play in environmental and planetary health. To help patrons explore these connections, the Repair Hub is curating an ongoing reference collection to serve the community’s repair needs and curiosities, from instructional resources related to repair and reuse, to books on sustainability, the circular economy, and environmental justice.

The Repair Hub is a program of BKLYN Incubator Round 8. It is co-led by the Greenpoint Library and Environmental Education Center and Repair Shop, a Brooklyn-based duo developing learning experiences and research around maintenance, craft, and design.
