Brooklyn Zine-In: Make Zines, Make History
Whatcha mean, What's a ZINE? A zine is a self-created and self-published work. Typically made using Do-It-Yourself methods of collage, drawing, stamping, and using found materials. Zines can be about anything and can be made by anyone!
Join us in partnership with Booklyn, Inc. for a Brooklyn Zine-In where you will learn how to make your own zine, pick up free copies of zines and limited edition stickers, view special zine-related materials from the Center for Brooklyn History's collection and contribute to the Brooklyn Zine-In Community Zine, a collection of stories from BPL staff and patrons. All zine-making materials will be provided, but you are welcome to bring any of your own images, stickers, stamps, markers, or other materials that you'd like to use.
Registration is encouraged, but not required.
Booklyn, Inc. has been a leader in DIY, open-source book and zine-making education for over two decades in New York City. Their mission is to promote artists’ books as art and research material and to assist artists and organizations in documenting, exhibiting, and distributing their artwork and archives within the academic market. They specifically assist artists and organizations committed to environmental and social justice. They work towards their mission by documenting, exhibiting, promoting, and distributing their work within educational institutions worldwide. They envision a world in which art and bookmaking are tools for education, personal agency, community engagement, and activism. Be sure to download their free Education Manual in English or Spanish.
