Libraries are essential to New Yorkers of all ages. They provide free access to opportunity, education, and community – through job fairs and resume help, early literacy programs, small business support, and quiet spaces to study and connect. More than just buildings, libraries are pillars of civic life and lifelines for millions of people across the five boroughs. But after years of flat funding, rising costs, and deferred maintenance, libraries are being asked to do more with less. Despite growing demand, they are still operating at pre-pandemic funding levels. Staffing shortfalls, aging infrastructure, and limited hours make it harder for New Yorkers to access the resources they depend on. Last year, thousands of New Yorkers wrote and asked you to support our libraries—and you listened. Thank you for restoring library funding in the FY25 budget and sparing libraries from deep cuts this year. Now, our libraries need continued, increased investment. This year, you have the opportunity to move libraries forward. Your increased investment will ensure that every neighborhood can count on modern, vibrant library spaces with the services and programs that keep our city strong. Please continue your leadership by prioritizing libraries. Let’s protect and grow one of New York City’s most valuable public assets. Thank you, Send Your Message Leave this field blank
