CBH Talk | Tommy Silk Discusses "Hidden Landmarks of New York" with Barry Bordelon of the Brownstone Boys
New York is a city of landmarks – more than 37,000 of them. Visitors and New Yorkers alike walk by hundreds of these landmarks daily, often never knowing the rich history behind them. One of these New Yorkers, Tommy Silk, has been photographing and chronicling one landmarked building every day for the last five years on his Instagram account, Landmarks of NY.
In his new book, Hidden Landmarks of New York, Silk spotlights 120 of the oldest, most unique, and often relatively unknown landmarks and the hidden history behind them. Join him in conversation with Barry Bordelon, half of the viral duo the Brownstone Boys, as they share their appreciation of the extraordinary buildings that make New York, New York.

Tommy Silk has a degree in History from Fordham University and is a licensed New York Sightseeing Guide. He has lived in New York City since 2008 and has been documenting his observations of the city on his Instagram account @LandmarksofNY since 2019. He can often be found riding his bike around the five boroughs with a camera around his shoulder photographing as much as he can. He currently lives in Brooklyn with his wife and two dogs.
Barry Bordelon is half of the renovation duo the Brownstone Boys, along with Jordan Slocum. Barry wears multiple hats during the course of a renovation but regularly takes the lead managing contractors, architects and clients, playing a critical role from purchase to move-in. Also a part time real estate agent, he bought his first small studio apartment over 10 years ago, flipped it himself (loves a good DIY!), and then put it on the market selling it for a considerable profit. He became obsessed with making a home special and one-of-a kind and saw the value in himself. Barry loves sourcing vintage pieces at local shops and draws inspiration from travels and restaurants/cafes within the community. Barry’s first book (co-written with Jordan), is For The Love of Renovating.
