Community Singing Event

Thu, Jan 23 2025
6:00 pm – 7:30 pm
Brooklyn Heights Library, Multipurpose Room

humanities and art LGBTQ music

Join us for our second Community Songshare singing circle at the Brooklyn Heights Library!

We will come together and share songs with each other that are relatively short, and easy to teach via call and response. Please consider coming with a song you might like to share! Our facilitator will support anyone who would like assistance with teaching a song to the group. This event welcomes and centers queer voices, and is open to all, regardless of musical experience or expertise! We will aim to co-create a safe space for singers of all backgrounds and musical experience to come together and connect through music.

Guidelines for this songshare:

  • If you would like to share a song, you do not need to bring any lyrics/sheet music, unless that feels good to you!
  • If you do bring any music on paper, please arrive a little early to allow us time to make photocopies.
  • Please share the writer (if known) and cultural context when sharing a new song.
  • We will avoid songs derived from organized religion, or using specifically gendered language (we may try to edit lyrics as a group)

Masks are encouraged.

This songshare will be facilitated by Lawrence Fiorelli (they/them). Lawrence has been singing since they could talk. They have sung with NYC's Moon Choir pre-COVID and have been singing with the Pittsburgh May Day choir, and a few other groups, for the past three years. They are the Assistant Branch Manager at the Brooklyn Heights Branch.

Registration is not required, but it is encouraged to help gauge how large our group might be!
