University Open Air: Dreams of Death, Signs of Rebirth. Discussion and Performance.
For many, dreams of death can bring discomfort, anxiety, and fear. Yet, death in the dream realm may be viewed as a transcendent experience rather than a literal one. Where there is death, there is a cycle into rebirth. One may ask themselves, "What part of me needs to die so a new chapter can begin?" Bring your dreams of death so we can give them a proper burial and begin to explore what can emerge from their fertile ground.
With a death and rebirth immersive dream experience presented by composer Jesse Gelaznik to follow.
Alisa Minyukova is a Russian born artist, researcher and educator based in Brooklyn, New York. She is co-creator of the Dream Mapping Project which works to bridge dream science with the creative process resulting in an ongoing series of collaborative art, film and performance works. Her drawings, film and mixed media installations explore world mythology and symbols of the collective unconscious.
Her research covers the topics of dreams, memories, liminality, emigration, heritage and the loss thereof and the exploration of the human condition by way of ancestral memory. Her current creative focus is on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine - a collective memory of war, and faith healing in South African cultures.
Jesse Gelaznik is an artist and musician studying composition with Jason Cady and modal counterpoint with Judith Berkson.
