Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis.
This free certification course is being held by the New Lots Literacy Zone in partnership with the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. You must be 18 or older to register to attend this training.
Please note that our elevator is not working currently so our space is not wheelchair accessible right now.
This 8-hour long course covers Mental Health First Aid for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and more.
Participants get a 3 year nationally recognized certification. Mental Health First Aid is included on the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP).
Registration is required for this program. Your registrations is only confirmed once staff reaches out to you. Registration is limited as well.
